Australia Day 2016

19/01/2016Australia Day 2016

Celebrate this beloved holiday

Australia Day is the country's official National Day and it takes place on january 26. Celebrations reflect the diversity and landscape of the nation as the date is filled with large events taking place across the country, on which australians enjoy the beloved holiday.

It was on this day, in 1788, that the first fleet of british ships, led by governor Arthur Phillip, arrived in Australia, and the meaning and significance of Australia Day has evolved ever since.

This year the holiday falls on a Monday, creating a long weekend at the peak of the australian summer, guaranteeing locals and turists will celebrate as much as they can. Even thought most australians like to relax and enjoy the date with their families on activities like barbecues or picnics, Australia's Day has a lot more to offer for those seeking a more agitaded weekend, such events include the Sydney Festival, the Tripple J's Hottest 100, and Brisbane's spetacular fireworks display.
